Skype for Business 2015 and Exchange Coexistance\Deployment RRS feed

  • Question

  • Currently we have an Exchange 2013 Enterprise Environment with Unified Messaging and SharePoint 2013 Enterprise. We are planning to deploy Skype for Business 2015 into our environment (no previous Lync or OCS exists). Their is a need to also upgrade our Exchange to Exchange 2016.

In your opinion would it be better to upgrade Exchange 2016 first (will have to be in coexistence with Exchange 2013 for awhile) or deploy Skype for Business first with Exchange 2013 and then upgrade to exchange 2016?

From our research so far Exchange 2016 looks to be compatible with S4B 2015 the worry is being in Coexistence mode where we have Exchange 2013 mailboxes and 2016 integrating with Skype and UM etc....

Any advice, opinions or warnings are  appreciated.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hi John MacDonald,

    Both options should be ok.

Base on my understanding, I’d like to deploy a Exchange coexistence environment firstly, and then deploy SFB Server. After that, perform UM integration between both Exchange 2013\2016 and Skype for Business Server 2015.

If you firstly integration between Exchange 2013 and SFB Server 2015, after migrate to Exchange 2016 you need to configure UM again.

    Best Regards
