How to properly edit hosts file on backup network RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I'm trying to configure a dedicated backup network on DPM 2012 R2, but all guides I see, they only say to edit hosts files using FQDN and NetBIOS, I can't figure the right way, this is my scenario:

    Production network:

    DPM server

    10.0.0.1/24     FQDN: DPM.test.com

    Protected server

    10.0.0.2/24     FQDN: SVR.test.com

    Backup Network

    DPM server

    192.168.0.1/24

    Protected server

    192.168.0.2/24

According with all tutorials I've come to, I have to edit the following on the HOSTS file:

    DPM server:

    192.168.0.2  SVR.test.com , 192.168.0.2 SVR

    Protected server:

    192.168.0.1  DPM.test.com , 192.168.0.1 DPM

    My question is the following:

Given that I'm altering the HOSTS file on both servers pointing to the backup network, what will happen with the Domain Name Resolution on Active Directory on my production network? Given that DPM.test.com now can resolve either 10.0.0.0/24 and 192.168.0.0/24 networks.

Is this the proper way to alter the HOSTS file to use a backup Network? Is this configuration going to affect Name Resolution on Active Directory?

I hope anyone can help me

    thanks.
