the group policy client service failed the logon. Vista Home Premium SP2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Vista Home Premium SP2.

Seems to have happened during a Windows Update (but not positive).

I can't login as the admin, its asking for a password and I don't have one.

I have no restore point. Tried System restore, but didn't help.

anyone have any workarounds/suggestions on how to get around this?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

I am afraid that you need an administrator account to fix this issue:

How to fix "The Group Policy Client service failed the logon. Access denied." error?

  • Thanks for the reply.  I have another question - I was planning on upgrading to Windows 7.  If I upgrade to Windows 7, will this problem go away? or will the upgrade fail without an admin account?

    thanks.

  • Hi,

If you want to perform online upgrade, it would need administrator permission. If you perform a clean install to upgrade to Windows 7, just backup your files.
