finding lost data after system recovery RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a compaq presario computer with windows xp service pack 3 installed.  Model of my computer is S6100NX.  It is a laptop computer from compaq.  A few days a go I had a power loss and the next time I turned on the computer I had an error message saying that " we are sorry for your inconvenience but windows did not start successfully."  I could not fix the problem so I had to do a system recovery.  I did not use system recovery cds.  Recovery partition already exists on my computer.  When I click on my computer I see drive C and drive D or recovery partition.  I am certain that my data is in drive D now.  I do not know how to get them back.  I have also tried going into safe mode and logged in as administrator, but there was no user account in the documents and settings folder.  I also have a recovery console in the safe mode.  I am certain that I have done a standard system recovery not a destructive one.  Could you please tell me if I can get my lost data back?        Thanks
