Asked by:
can't refresh datas or filter data in Excel services: security error

Question
-
Hi,
I'm receiving this error:
The data connection uses Windows Authentication and Excel Services is unable to delegate user credentials.
when I try to refresh the data in an Excel services or if I try to filter the data on the screen (like selecting a value in a slicer)
For sure the folder is in the trusted sources of the Excel Services Application.
any idea?- Moved by Mike Walsh FIN Friday, November 27, 2009 7:05 PM admin q (until there is a forum that covers Excel Services in SPS 2010) (From:SharePoint 2010 - General Questions and Answers)

Moving to 2010 Admin.
There's also no mention of SharePoint 2010 in your post or Title so as MOSS 2007 has Excel Services too, please confirm that you are specifically asking about SPS 2010.
(and in future please always say so)

I'd like the answer as well. The first thing I used to do when I got this error was to make sure Excel was configured for delegation (stsadm -o set-ecssecurity -accessmodel delegate) but I don't know how to do that using PowerShell in SP2010.Monday, December 28, 2009 7:47 PM

Any luck with this anyone? I found the powershell command help but it does not work
Set-SPExcelServiceApplication -AccessModel "My Excel Services Application" Delegation
The help says that I can set the access model using "AccessModel" but I get an error -
Set-SPExcelServiceApplication : A parameter cannot be found that matches parame
ter name 'AccessModel'.

Took me a while too to figure out that only Geneva will save the day :-)
If only MS would make it a bit LESS abvious :-)

Thanks guys, I will try this tonight. Is it enough if the service is up and running or should I still run the Command to setup Delegation after starting the service?

Hmm you get another error than i get, but it's still concerning Excel Services OLAP refresh - http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-SG/sharepoint2010setup/thread/3e530c08-9e6c-47dc-b937-25dc75b9cf1c
Hoping for an answer :-)Wednesday, February 17, 2010 4:19 PM -
I am afraid starting the "Microsoft Geneva Claims To Windows Token Service" did not help me. When I refresh the Data connections on the excel sheet from SPS, I still get the following error -
The Data connection uses Windows authentication and Excel services is unable to delegate user credentials. The following connections failed to refresh:
Any ideas?

also do these steps:

(and follows all the steps described in the article)Thursday, February 18, 2010 2:23 AM -
Do I need to do these settings? I am using Excel 2007, I was not sure if I need these as I am not using Excel 2010 and the PowerPivot Add-In? I am just trying to connect to the OLAP datasource using Data->From Other Sources->From Analysis Services and have a pivot table with cube data.

Basically you need to verify if the Claim to windows Token Service is activated or not.
If not, please go to Central Administrator ->System Settings -> Manage Services on Server ->Claims to Windows Token Services ( Start this service )
Also verify if Administrative Tools ->Services ->Claims to windows Token Service is started.
Please go through the link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff487975.aspx for more details
Thanks
