OST and PST - Import Messages Problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • User has email from 2 different email servers from different companies. User moving to Office 365. User using Outlook 2016 to access email on Office 365 - data file is an OST file. User has email from other email company in a PST file and would like to import some messages (not all) into current OST file. When import is tried an error message is generated - "The destination folder contains items of a different type than the source folder. Verify both the source and destination folders contain the same type of items".

Any suggestions on how to get around this problem?

  • Hi Micknet,

When importing, please choose “Import items into the current folder” in the following dialog box to see if it works.

If error continues, instead of importing, please try opening this PST file in Outlook. To do this, click File > Open&Export > Open Outlook Data File.

If it opens normally, we can manually copy/move folders to your Exchange account as a workaround.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

    Regards,

    Perry
