KB942763 in not installing in my Vista Business 32bits RRS feed

  • Question

  • The update KB942763 is being offered by Windows Update to my system but I can't install it.
    The error code is 80070643.
I have MS Office 2007 installed and the OSE service is running manual. Starting it does not help.
There is no support on http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=942763

    I've done this:

    1. Create a new folder in D:\ and name it as 942763.

    2. Download KB942763 to D:\942763

    3. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories. Right-click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.

    4. Type the following line and press Enter.

    wusa.exe D:\942763\Windows6.0-KB942763-v2-x86.msu

    It does not work.

    I've done this also:

    net stop wuauserv

    rd %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\WuReDir

    net start wuauserv

    Can't install...

    The Windows Events show this:
A atualização do Windows "Atualização para o Windows (KB942763)" não pôde ser instalada em razão de um erro: 2149842978 "" (Linha de comando: "wusa.exe  Windows6.0-KB942763-x86.msu")

    What more can I do?

    Hi Technical,

    Thank you for the post.

Can you double-click the downloaded package to install KB942763?

    In addition, I suggest typing “wusa.exe D:\942763\Windows6.0-KB942763-x86.msu” (no “v2” between KB942763 and x86.msu).

Before installing the update, please confirm if KB942763 is already listed in Control Panel\Programs and Features->View installed updates. If so, you do not need to reinstall it.

For more information, please refer to the following thread:

    http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?postid=2352775&siteid=17

However, if the issue persists after trying all the suggestions in the thread, please understand we usually need to check logs files to perform further research on update issues. As your system is for Brazil, we are not the best resource to troubleshoot this issue. I recommend you discuss this issue in our public Brazil newsgroup. Thank you for your understanding.

    Hope it helps.

  • By the way, is there a way to 'force' the installation (like a command line parameter). I couldn't find it.
That is an update for local time area. Could be the problem originated because I've installed a hotfix (can't remember which one) that corrects the DST for Brazil (it was a hotfix released by Microsoft itself).

Yes, I can. The update does not install, i.e., install but fails.

    In addition, I suggest typing “wusa.exe D:\942763\Windows6.0-KB942763-x86.msu” (no “v2” between KB942763 and x86.msu).

I've downloaded the update from Microsoft site and both double click and use wusa.exe method as you've saying. No luck.

Before installing the update, please confirm if KB942763 is already listed in Control Panel\Programs and Features->View installed updates. If so, you do not need to reinstall it.

It's not there, it fails to install.

Anyway, seems a Comodo Firewall issue:

    Thanks for your help.

  • They are working on it over at Comodo, and there is a "temporary fix" available from them. I know you've already been at their forum once or twice, but this is fairly new.

Ok.  Well, I'm getting this issue and I am not running Comodo.  Any ideas?
