  • Good Morning Experts,

Principal server crashed and automatic failover started but mirror is not coming up online. How to deal with this situation?

  • You may need to do a force failover.

    ALTER DATABASE [MyDatabaseName]
    SET PARTNER FORCE_SERVICE_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS

  • But the server has not come up online. Both principal and mirror are down.

  • Hi kiran,

The answer related to the mode that mirroring is configured.

    Safety FULL with Witness :

The mirror server will form a quorum with witness and will initiate an automatic failover.

    Safety FULL without Witness :

ALTER DATABASE dbname SET PARTNER OFF
    RESTORE DATABASE dbname WITH RECOVERY

    Safety OFF :

ALTER DATABASE dbname SET PARTNER FORCE_SERVICE_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS

Please refer to  How can I bring mirror database online after principal server is down ?

    Hope this could help you.

    Best regards,
    Cathy Ji
