Hyper-V 2012 block based ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have deployed DPM 2012 SP1 on my infrastructure. I have created one protection group for one virtual machine on Hyper-V 2012 host.

Backup works fine but i think it's full VDH backup and not block based Backup... for exemple i have the initial replica, in report i can see the size : 29,3GO.

Then, i have download an ISO files from the virtual machine (to increase the size), ISO size was 2GO.

I start recovery point using "Express full backup" mode, now report show the data transfered is equal to : 31,3GO...

If block based working, the data shoud be like ony "2Go" no (difference) ?

    Thanks !

  • Hi JoR,

The inital backup when creating the replika is the only full backup you will make. DPM will identify the blocklevel changes and transfer them to the DPM server.

Please have a look in the Protection view, mark the datasource (Hyper-V guest) and look at the bottom of the console. Verify the size of the Replica and the recovery Point volume.

  • Thanks Robert, the bottom details indicate :

    Replica: 50,18 GB reserverd 33,57 GB used| Recovery Point : 3,24 GB reservd, 1 016,78 MB used

Recovery point result of block based backup ? So 3,24 GB of the "changes" ?
