SCCM 2012 Software Update-Based client installation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am testing SCCM2012 in our lab. I have successfully set up a primary site. Now I am trying to automate configmrg client installation. I am going to use software-update based client installation for this. I have configured the following things for this, but still its not working.

    Items configured:

    • WSUS 3.0 installed on site server
    • ConfigMgr client published on distribution point
    • Intranet update point GPO configured and linked on target computer OU

Now when I run windows update on target computer, I get a 0x80027EE2 error and ConfigMgr client is not getting installed.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Additional info:

    • Distribution point is set to Active.
    • Site is in mixed mode
    • http://<Siteserver>/CCM_Client is accessible from site server, but not from other target computer
    • Target computer is within boundary
    • Both site server and target computer firewall is turned off

  • 0x80027EE2 is a timeout error from the WUA agent talking to the WSUS server.  That means the client computers are never getting far enough for most of the site settings to matter.  That seems to indicate that something is wrong with the WSUS server, GPO or WUA client configuration.  Of course you Enabled 'Software Udate-Based Configuration Manager Client' in the site's 'Client Installation Settings' right?

There are some WSUS diagnostic tools here:

  • How did you specify WSUS Server in the GPO ? It must be FQDN and Port number.

    example:

Did you create boundary groups (with site assignment)?

  • Yes, that is enabled. I also believe that something is wrong with WSUS, GPO or WUA configuration, as WSUS console is showing 0 computers.

  • Yes, i have mentioned full FQDN and port number.

I have created a boundary, not boundary group though. Is that a necessary step?

  • Yes.

Boundaries (without a boundary group) has no function.
Boundary Groups are used for Site Assignment and Content Location.

  • That was it. Boundary Group was what was missing.

Thank you very much for the information.
