WSUS Install RRS feed

  • Question

  • Guys,

I am trying to install WSUS onto a standaline server (Offline) but encountering some issues, do you know of which patches are required after the base install of WSUS onto a windows 2008 R2 server?

  • Hi Nathan,

This thread mentions that KB2938066 is the last update of WSUS 3.0 SP2, please consider patching.

In addition, WSUS 3.0 SP2 is ending its life cycle and we recommend that you consider moving to a newer version. For reference, please read Microsoft's guidance article: "Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 Support".

  • Hi Nathan,

Unfortunately, WSUS 4.0 is is not available in the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system.
As a service period role, WSUS 4.0 is added to the Microsoft Windows Server 2012 operating system.

If your question here is whether WSUS 4.0 can provide update management for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, then it is ok, it can provide update management services for 2008 R2 operating system.

Hope the above can help you.

    Regards,
    Yic

  • thanks for the info again.

are you aware of WSUSUTIL.exe being able to update the log file dynamically when importing or continue from where it failed based on the log created when it fails?

  • Hi Nathan,

As far as I know, when the wsusutil.exe program exports/imports WSUS meta-statements, the logs related to WSUS do not have any processing records. We can only know the processing results through feedback from the command prompt.

And the official article also mentioned the following:

    • It can take three to four hours for the WSUS database to validate newly imported content.

Therefore, it is unclear that the function of continuing the import from the interrupted position is also unclear.
Hope the above can help you.

    Yic
