Home Folder renaming to Documents RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are a school district running a Windows domain environment.  We are running mainly Server 2003 with a few Server 2008 at the server level.  The majority of our workstations are running Windows XP.  This year we have upgraded about 300 workstations to Windows 7.  All students accounts have a mapped home folder.  The home folder is mapped to a server location through Active Directory.  The home folder is then permissioned on the server level.  The teachers have access to the students H drives and I have a shortcut set up on their desktop which takes them to the share.

When some students save to Documents on Windows 7, their home folder is being renamed to "Documents".  This causes confusion as the teachers have access to the share to view their work.  When I try to rename these folders on the server all the folders that are name "Documents" change to that name.  Example: If I rename one of these folders to 11smithj all of the folders that have automatically changed to "Documents" then become 11smithj.

It seems that this is an issue with Windows 7 but I can not find a fix that works.  I have tried option 3 on kb947222 but this did not work.  Many people have been referring editing the desktop.ini file on the server, but I haven't had any success with this either.  Any help solving this issue would be appreciated.  Thank you!
