Deleted Outlook Express folder after migration from Windows XP to Windows 8.1 with MDT. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi to all.

    I have a problem with a customer.

She had Windows XP and i did upgrade to Windows 8.1 with MDT. I chose to keep files (i did it many times before) and everything went alright.

But some strange happened. I noticed that after migration, the folder where files from Outlook Express stored disappeared!

The problem is that i want these files, why i transferred all e-mail to Outlook 2007 but the pst "broke" maybe from the big number of e-mails or maybe pst created with 2003 and had limit 2GB.

I had  in my mind before migration that MDT keep all important files from User folder.

It is possible MDT delete this folder? (Identities->Outlook Express)

  • Certainly possible.  You will need to look at the USMT logs to know for sure though.

Most important details are logs. If you are unsure how to post logs or where to find them then reference https://keithga.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/video-mdt-2013-log-files-basics-bdd-log-and-smsts-log/

  • I wouldn't have expected to see an error message.  In the future if you want to see the logs from an old machine you should set SLShare in customsettings.ini so that your logs get copied off to some location.
