IIS process using up all memory RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an ASP 2.0.5 app running on IIS in a VM.  The system is using up all of its memory until the app starts to fail.  Then I have to recycle IIS to let go of the memory and it runs fine after that.  I have installed debugdiag and set crash and leak rules for all of the w3wp.exe processes I found.  They haven't crashed since doing that this morning, but I will post logs when they do.  Is there anything else I can do to determine what is causing IIS to gobble up all of the memory?

VM is single cpu with 1gb RAM and 4gb page file.

  • Hi,

Memory leaks in IIS are usually due to development issues in hosted
ASP.Net sites. When the developers built the application, did they
ensure that they were freeing their resources and closing their DB
connections after they were used? Also are the developers using
development patterns to minimize the memory footprint of the application?
