Issues with converting Project Server 2010 trial to full license RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everybody!

I have installed Project Server 2010 with trial licence and use normal. Today, Project Server 2010 trial expired so i can access PWA as well as all site contents. So I went to Central Admin/Upgrade and Migration/Convert farm license type to enter Project Server 2010 activation key from my MSDN subscription and click OK. After a while, it "Your license conversion operation failed".

Could any people kindly tell me what's the problem and how can I resolve this ? I don't want reinstall it because I have configured many features... It will take a lot of time.

    Thanks very much.

  • Hi Huu,

As far as I remember that ProjectServer/SharePoint Server 2010 for Internet Enterprise license key from my MSDN subscription does not provide Enterprise CAL features. You need reinstall it with sharepoint 2010 /project server 2010 Enterprise CAL license Key, also keep a backup of content database.

( the Project Server 2010 key upgrades both the SharePoint Server 2010 Trial and Project Server 2010 Trial to the licensed editions. You will not be required to use the same procedure to convert the SharePoint Server 2010 Trial version to the license, because this has already occurred through your Project Server 2010 key. It is important to realize that you are still required to own a SharePoint Server 2010 (Enterprise with CAL) license for this installation. )

Please take a look at the below thread

Once you have new farm ready, Later, you may think to restore the content database(s) in new farm.

  • Hi Amit,

I have a similar issue. Let me explain.

I have installed PS2010 trial on SP2010 trial. Now I have entered the PS2010 productkey and it accepted the license change.

Now, the license field leaves empty.

Is it correctly licensed now or will for example SP2010 still expire?? I cannot enter any additional key, because the input is grayed out.

    Thanks for comments

  • Hi There,

This seems to be expected  if you have the SP2010/PS2010 Enterprise edition licence. Due to security reason existing product keys will not be displayed. This particular page is to convert your standard license to enterprise license . Actual product key will be stored in the registry in encrypted format.

You can always verify if the enterprise features are enabled:

    Does that help?
