Could be a video driver problem (GPU).   Try using the new Internet Options Advanced tab compatibility choice:
Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering.

  • Hi,

For GPU settings, you can test this by the following:

        Close all Internet Explorer windows

        Click Start

        Type Internet Options

        Press Enter on your keyboard

        Click the Advanced tab

Check the Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering* box (let us know if this box is greyed out)

        Click OK

        Open Internet Explorer

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

    How are you installing?

    via Windows Update?

    slipstreaming an image?

what custom desktop theme does your company use?

do you have Alienware computers? Do you have Alien guise or Windows Blinds installed? (desktop theme managers which hook into dwm.exe (desktop window management)

some custom desktop themes, alien guise or windows blinds are 'really' compatible with IE9 (web search for Black toolbars in IE) and the IE9 installation package that your download manually from MSDN may be doing a dwm.exe refresh...

You could do that manually if you were using a slipstreamed image...

the installation usually also requires a reboot... perhaps completing the full installation cycle will correct the issue itself.

    Regards.

  • I have installed both w/ windows update and a standalone download w/ the same result ...

no custom desktop .... just a background image which users can change if they want

no alienware .... just Dell desktops and Laptops

after numerous reboots the black desktop background remains .... the only way to fix it is to go back into the prferences and select a background ....

it changes the exisiting background image into something called transcodedwallpaper which if u follow it to the file it looks like a copy of the image  ...... IE8 may do the same thing but in this case IE 9 breaks it .... it almsot reminds me of the "active desktop" an old IE version used to put on pc's many years ago .....
