2 forests in Resource forest implementation and new forest RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have 2 AD forests with AD trust,

    1. Forest A - Services: SfB servers and users from organization A

    2. Forest B - users from organization B

We want to consolidate the organizations and make it simpler by implementing new AD forest with trusts to existing forests and implement there new SfB servers and move there all users.

    The idea is:

    1. Implement new Site with new servers (FE pool, Edge, etc.) in the same Topology but in new AD forest,

    2. Move users to new FE pool from existing SfB pool

    3. Move SQL and other elements to new pool

    4. Decomissioning old SfB infrastructure

    Questions:

    1. Is it possible to implement SfB in existing topology but in domain from different forest with a trust?

    2. What is the best way to move users from one forest to another (for both cases)?

    3. And the most important - is it a good idea?

    Thank you for every question.

    Regards,

  • Hi iron-flower

Are these two forests in one environment or in two different environment?

According to your description, can we understand you want to synchronize the user from the account forests into the forest where Skype for Business Server is deployed?

To my knowledge, Skype for Business is supported the resource forest in the topology, so you could move users from forest A to forest B and keep the AD in forest A

When Skype for Business Server is deployed in one forest(a resource forest), but provides functionality to users in one or more forests(account forests), users in the other forests must be represented as disabled user objects in the forest where Skype for Business Server is deployed.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/skypeforbusiness/hybrid/configure-a-multi-forest-environment-for-hybrid

If you want to know Skype for Business multiple forests topology requirements, you can refer to:

  • One more time.

    There will be 3 forests.

Forest A - existing one with Sfb servers and users (company A)

Forest B - users (company B) that are connected to SfB in Forest A (Resource Forest)

    Forest C - new one

In Forest C we want to install new SfB servers and move all users from Forest A and Forest B.

    How can we do that?
