Windows 8 - cannot see my WiFi but can see others & will not connect via ethernet RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently did a clean install of Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. When I came to the final stages of setup, choosing a wireless network mine was not displayed even though I could see my neighbors and others. My router is switched on and connected to my iPhone and other laptop running Win 7 Pro and working fine. Windows 8 is not yet activated but I cannot activate it as I have no internet connection. I have tried connecting via Ethernet but it will not connect it just shows the little yellow triangle. I cannot even access my router settings. I have tried Ipconfig but get no IP address for default gateway.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Please check whether there is an updated version driver on the manufacturer's website.

  • 1. Use drivers from your computer vendor and not from MS update. Hope you have installed chipset driver, followed by audio, video and network drivers just after vanilla plain installation of W 8.

    2. You can compare only WiFi with the same parameters (protocols) and perhaps comparable output power.
