User profiles getting populated from other domains which are not part of "import connections" defined RRS feed

  • Question

  • Assume AD forest has 4 domains a.com b.com c.com and d.com. In MOSS 2007, you have defined only 1 import connection (for a.com domain). After an import I see all the user profiles from a.com along with some random profiles fom b.com, c.com and d.com as well. HOW AND WHY ARE THESE PROFILES GETTING POPULATED?

I assume they are getting popluated because some site collections in my web applications have users from those domains as well. These profiles are result of some background sync. I AM INTERSTED TO KNOW THE LIFE CYCLE OF THIS SYNCHRONIZATION.

My Googling / Binging resulted me with this only resource http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms563846(v=office.12).aspx, which does not answer any of my questions.

Any body throwing relevent light are appriciated.

  • Hi,

Profile import imports profiles from AD to SSP.

In a site when you add people the people picker first checks in SSP and if it does not find it there it goes to AD and search there.

Once it finds there it uses that.

I hope this will help you out.
