  • Download, install and configure EasyBCD in Windows 7.  Also see: EasyBCD Documentation

  • First of all, make a backup of you current Windows 7 BCD registry, by executing the following command

    bcdedit /export backupbcd.bcd

You can restore your original BCD registry file by executing the bcdedit /import backupbcd.bcd command.
You have to modify the Windows 7 BCD (on the C drive) as follows

    bcdedit /create {ntldr} /d "Windows XP"
    bcdedit /set {ntldr} device partition=D:
    bcdedit /set {ntldr} path \ntldr
    bcdedit /displayorder {ntldr} /addlast

The "Windows XP" is just a label that you can change the way you like: it will represent the name displayed by the boot loader when you'll be prompted to select the OS to boot.
