P5W DH Boot Failure, Installation DVD Rescue Mode Failure RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm at my wits end, virtually at the point of taking the Vista RTM DVD out back and shooting it up

My hardware: E6400 Core 2 Duo, Asus P5W DH Deluxe (ICH7) motherboard.

I got Windows Vista installed, and dual booting with Ubuntu Linux.

So after a week or so of usage (primarily Linux), I try to boot into Windows Vista again (I had successfully booted into it multiple times before), to be greeted with the boot process hanging on crcdisk.sys.

I have changed not a thing on my system. No hardware changes, no disk changes.

Here's the kicker: The installation DVD refuses to boot past showing the mouse cursor as well, so I'm stuck up a creek because I can't get into the rescue environment to fix it. I'd love to know what the problem is though.

Vista seems to be as much of a pain to run alongside other operating systems as any other Microsoft software. Seriously, this is pretty poor.

So I guess I have to reformat and reinstall using the XP CD, yet again.
