USMT size limt RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are using USMt in our Windows 7 to Windows 10 migration.

Some of the machines have large USMT size .We are anlysing and updating the USMT rule files as we go.

However Is it possibel to set a CAP limit on the size of the USMT capture.? i mean if i can set a limit of 2 GB. USMT scan state should fail if data reach 2 GB of capture. any options like that ?

  • Even though i've only used USMT through a third party backup service (which i've configured to only back up the user's Windows settings), this TechNet thread for USMT through SCCM might be similar to your request.

In short, it doesn't seem like you can cap the amount of data that is backed up in a USMT state store.

You would need to figure out the directories of a user's profile that has the most critical files to grab through a USMT scanstate. The downloads directory can be a big space utilization directory if the user doesn't remember that its there.
