Spinning cursor in Office 2013 with Canon MX410 printer RRS feed

  • Question

  • When in any Microsoft Office 2013 program, as soon as I select my Canon MX410 as the printer the cursor turns into it's busy spinning form. It stays this way even when I switch back out of backstage view until I change the printer to another one. I have tried re-installing the printer drivers to no avail.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, it is really preventing efficiency! Thanks!

  • Hi,

In regarding of the issue, I have some questions.

    • Which operation system are you using?
    • Did the Canon MX410 using as Network printer or just plugged the USB cable from your printer into an available USB port on your PC?
    • Which printer driver are you you using?

Then, I recommend we do the following steps and check if they are helpful.

    1) Delete the Canon MX410 from Device list, and download printer driver and re-add it

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/add-view-manage-devices-printers

    2) Start Excel in safe mode to check if there are some add-ins conflicted with Canon MX410 http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/work-with-office-safe-modes-HP010140792.aspx

    Hope it's helpful

It's recommended to download and install Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office programs.

  • This seems to be a common issue with office as I have seen it happen under Windows 7 Ultimate with Office 2010 and Office 2013. It seems to be caused by the printer driver and a work around is to go into printers and devices and change your default printer to anything but your regular printer and the cursor will stop spinning.

After installing Office 2013 this week everything looked fine until I received another printer update from MS this morning (Dell 1320CN). Unfortunately word and other apps are now plagued with the spinning cursor. I repointed the default printer to Adobe Acrobat and the cursor returned to normal. Back to the default printer and the problem reappears. This is certainly driver created as the update to Win7 this morning that included the optional printer driver caused this to reoccur.

This issue has been around for at least Office 2010 and Office 2013 without resolution. A simple Goodle of the problem brings back a vast number of people suffering the same issue. Please Microsoft could you look to resolve this or provide an alternative to the current work around.
