and restore this site collection in MOSS 2007 (new server) ?

if possible, suggest best command line statement to perform this operation .

  • Hi Daniel,

It's a nice article. But here my doubt is, Upto now we are using WSS 3.0 + WID (WSS 3.0 in Basic Mode of installation). The Intranet

Backup is about nearly 5 GB.We started using MOSS 2007 with Basic Mode of installation. Upto my knowledge, if we install MOSS 2007

in Basic mode of installation we will get SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is having 4 GB limit. So if

I want to restore my WID database into SQL Server 2005 Express it ownt  accept (I was not tried upto now). So please give me the

suitable mechanism to me. And one more thing is I changed the Toplink bar settings in the WSS 3.0. If I install that one, THen what

type of problems I will get. I will try these things but suggest your experience.

    Thanks,
    Rao.

  • Rao - You really need a licensed copy of SQL Server.  With 5 Gb of content, you probably want to seperate the DB to its own server anyway.  Unless the box is very well built you are going to see performance issues running all of those services from one server with that much content.

In fact I think he MUST have a copy of full SQL Server.

WSS 3.0's version of SQL Server 2005 Express (Windows Internal Database) has no database size limit; MOSS 2007's version has that 4GB limit.

So as its impossible to put 5GB into 4GB that's the end of that. You can NOT use the WSS 3.0's database system in MOSS 2007.

Choices are thus to either remove at least 1GB of data before making the move or to use full SQL Server. The former gives you new problems in a week when it hits the 4GB limit again. The latter is problem-free (and full SQL Server is the only suitable db system for somethign as big as MOSS surely?
