Exchange 2013 Single Multi-Role server Receive connector message size limits do not work

    Question

  • I recently discovered that on a single multi-role server you must set the attachment size limit at the organization level and not on the receive/send connectors. With this limitation is there a way to configure the following?

    1. Set max send/receive message size to/from internal users to 10 MB.

    2. Set Max send/receive message size to/from external users to 20 MB.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

    Jose

  • Hi,

To check the settings please follow the below command

    Get-ReceiveConnector | Format-Table Name,Max*Size,MaxRecipientsPerMessage; Get-SendConnector | Format-Table Name,MaxMessageSize; Get-AdSiteLink | Format-Table Name,MaxMessageSize; Get-DeliveryAgentConnector | Format-Table Name,MaxMessageSize; Get-ForeignConnector | Format-Table Name,MaxMessageSize

Also you can follow the below command

  • Hi,

For Exchange server, we can configure message limitation by organization, server, connector and user level. Here's the order for those limitation level:
    1. Global Transport configuration settings
    2. Send connector size restriction
    3. Receive connector size restriction
    4. In the user mailbox properties of send and receive size limit

For your question, we need ensure the settings on those level. You can refer to the link as Praveen mentioned above.

please note that attachment size limit applies only to the size of an individual attachment. It means that the message might contain more than one attachment which can affect the overall size limit of message.

  • Can anyone explain to me in a single multirole Exchange 2013 server why message size limits only work at the organization level and not on send or receive connectors?
