Server Manager-Dashboard and an old dos program RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just moved to a new Windows 2016 server.  I have NOT checked the box "Do not start Server Manager automatically at logon."  I also have a old dos program (.exe type) that I keep running all the time.

Every two or three days, the old dos program would stop running, and the Server Manager-Dashboard would display when I log on.  Other times, the dos program would run, and the Server Manager-Dashboard will not display.

I wonder what stops my dos program.  And why the Server Manager-Dashboard not always displays when I log on.  It only displays when the dos program stops running.  Why these two events are tied together?  I need to keep the dos program running all the time.

    Anyone has a clue?

    Thank you so much,

  • "I wonder what stops my dos program. "

Does anything appear in the log about the application aborting?  Do you have access to the author of the application?  Did this application run properly on previous versions of Windows Server?

Without knowing how the DOS application interacts with the OS, it is pretty difficult to determine a root cause.  Maybe you can talk with the application developer to find how it is interacting with the system and if it is supported to run on Windows Server 2016.
