Difference Between 70-686 & 70-685 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We are trying to decide which certifiaction path to take but areconfused between the difference in the 70-686:Pro: Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop Administrator and 70-685:Pro: Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop Support Technician exams.

Can anyone tell us the main difference between these two certifications - unfortunately the Microsoft learning site has little information.

We have 150 clients with a mix of office workers and remote VPN workers on desktop and laptop clients.  All run XP Profesional.  We are looking to upgrade all to Windows 7 and to create a standard image for machines.

    Thank you.

  • 70-685 tests advanced skills in day to day end user support for Windows 7 and applications running on Windows 7

70-686 test skills in Planning Windows 7 deployments, Deploying Windows 7 (including deployment tools),
and planning and automating migrations to Windows 7 from earlier Windows versions. This includes things like Hardware Lifecycle planning etc.

This means for the business case you described:

Planning, and executing the migration / upgrade  including creating and maintaining the Windows 7 standard image and the deployment enviroment
is covered bij the knowledge tested by the 70-686 exam and  (organising) the day to day help-desk support during and after
the migration is covered bij the knowledge tested by the 70-685 exam. where your senior HD staff or 2nd Line support are usualy
the ones with this skill level.
