Project manager cannot open project plan in PWA RRS feed

  • Question

  • The project manager is in the project server default project managers group - which sync with AD.  He could import and publish his plan in PWA.  He has full control in his team site.  But, he cannot open his project plan in PWA.  He has My Organization and My Projects categories permissions.  My Projects permission includes 'Open Project'.  What is it missing?  We are in October CU.

  • Hi, by default this should work, so you'll need to apply good old fashioned troubleshooting here.  The best way if you can is to reset the permissions to the standard permissions for the Project Manager, and remove all other permissions and groups for this user.   There was a permissions fix in the December CU so you might want to try the CU also.

  • Can your PM able to see his project(s) in Project Center ? are you using PS2010?

Also is able to open the project from MSP?

let me know these details and will try to resolve it together.

By chance, is the URL specified in this user's Project Server Accounts dialog slightly different from the URL that he/she uses to access PWA?  That can cause this problem.  Let us know and we will try to help.

  • The PM  can see his project in Project Center - Project Server 2010.

But, he cannot open his project plan in Project Center.  That is another strange behaviour.  He can open the project from MSP client.

  • I also came across this link.  http://microsoftepmsolution.blogspot.com/2010/01/epm2007-preventing-users-from-modifying.html#comment-form

But, there is no advanced permission under Users and Permssions on the PWA site.  Is that only available in Project 2007.  I wouldn't think so.

  • Canrmd2010,

lets discuss the site permission settings in the seperate thread, where you have already logged this and i replied earlier.

Now coming back to this issue, what error the PM is getting when he is trying to access the Project form project center ? is it the permission message he is getting or soemthing else ?

  • The URL in the user's Project Server Account dialog is the same as the path to the PWA site.  In fact, he can publish his project plan from MSP client to PWA with no problem.

  • He is not getting any error.  He gets Project Information. It shows the he is the Owner.

  • Is he not able to see the Project Schedule PDP along with the Project information?

if not, then follow the steps to add the schedule PDP:

    1. Go to the Server settings,

    2. Under the workflow and Project Detail pages, click on Enterprise Project Template

    3. Click on the EPT you use to create project (for instace Basic Project EPT)

    4. Scroll down and you will find Visible Project Detail Pages dialog box, select and add the schedule PDP into the available dialog box.

Now go back to the Project Center, click on the same project, and your PM should able to see the Schedule along with the Project Information.

Do let me know if it works out for you.

  • He can only see project information but not the schedule.

it already has Schedule and Project Information

  • if he clicks on Schedule, is he able to see the Project Views in drop down ? (this only to verify if the views are allowed for the group)

also you sure the PM has published the project and not only save the project? click on schedule, and click on Edit and selct In Project Web App. It will open the project in edit mode and will show you any tasks which were saved but not published. See if he still not able to see any task details.

  • When he clicks on Schedule, he can see  - Summary, cost, EV, etc in the Project view drop down. But, he cannot open the plan.  He gets Project Fields page wth start and end date.

Yes, he has published it.  When he open In Project Professional for Editing, it launched Project Professional and the status changed to checked out.
