Client Push / Manual Installation not working RRS feed

  • Question

  •

    Hi,

We are testing SCCM on virtual environment and not able to install client of SCCM on any server/computer of our test environment..we tried to install manually by below comand..

    \\<site server>\SMS_<site code>\client\ccmsetup.exe /mp:<management point> SMSSITECODE=<site code> FSP = <fallback status point>

but not getting any message and under All Desktops and Servers we can see client names but all are stated NO under Client and  N/A under Approved..

we also tried client push method but so far no luck to get any client from test environment..

IN IIS Web Service Extenstions.. WebDAV,SMSMP,SMS_SLP, SMS_MP, SMS_FSP, BITS, CCM_ServerFramework are allowed..

We do have configured bounderies, client agents, management point,  client push installation method , discovery methods .

    Any suggestions..

  • I have no idea what that last message you added means, I've never seen it. I assume that is a Forefront message?

  • Have you extended your Active Directory Schema? If you have not then the command line you are using will never find its management point. The /mp setting only controls where you download the msi from, not where the client actually is assigned to.

I would either extend AD, or install a Server Locator Point. I always install an SLP anyways to support workgroup systems. Then specify the SLP in your ccmsetup command like SMSSLP=YourSLPServer

If this is a native site then I would check the certificate on the client.  Also if you don't have the prereqs installed then a restart is necessary to complete the client install process.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for reply,

I had already extended schema by running extadsch.exe . As all computrs/servers of test enviornment are on same domain i am not using certificate ..is it mandatory to install certificate on all client computers of SCCM..?

I can see CcmExec.exe  process running in task manager but i cant see any program listed in Add/remove program list for SCCM...

When i execute ccmsetup.exe command from Command prompt i am not getting any wizard or any notification it just go to commandprompt back soon...

like SCE do we need to create any specific group with specific name...?

  • If you are running native mode, then yes, certificates are required. I didn't see a statement as to what mode you were running in.

If you are doing a push, then the Ccm.log is the one to check (on the site server).

For manual client installs, you start with Ccmsetup.log to see if it installed correctly. If so, then ClientLocation.log to see if it has been assigned to a site. If so, then LocationServices.log to validate that it found the default MP for the site. If so, then ClientIDManagerStartup.log to see if it registered properly. If so, then Ccmexec.log to see if it has any HTTP errors communicating with the MP.

If all that is good then I'd suggest you update the collection membership, wait a minute, and then hit Refresh on the collection.

  • Well the first attempt to deploy the client to Vappsrv1 errored with the same error - 1053 - which is the same you note below. Then it did install on the client on the next attempt.

But the client service can't start. So it is out of our hands, we did what we could. I'd venture a guess that you have some other process on the system that is preventing us from starting, such as a GPO or maybe some issue with a virus scanner. All I can suggest is removing those type of things and seeing when the service gets unblocked and can start.

  • Thanks Wally for Quick Reply,

We are using ForefrontSecurity on all clients in  test environment and we created policy in forefront for scanning schedule and update check...may be it's preventing ccmsetup service to start as this is happening on all clients in test environment..

I have uninstalled Forefront on two test client and waiting for some good news to come up..
