Question on Installing DPM Agent in Hyper-V for backing up SharePoint 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a couple of Windows 2008 R2 Core Enterprise server clustered with Hyper-V setup. Within this environment, we have a virtual Windows 2003 with SharePoint 2007 running. The SQL backend database for the SharePoint 2007 is on a seperate physical server that is not part of the cluster/hyper-v. My question is, in order to restore specific SharePoint sites/components using DPM, do we install the DPM agent on the Hyper-V host machine and tell it to back up the virtual server that has the SharePoint 2007 or do we install the DPM agent on the virtual host that has the SharePoint 2007?

Thx in advance for any help given.

  • You should install an agent on the VM that has SharePoint 2007 and use that server for your sharepoint protection. That way SharePoint site/item recovery can be enabled.

You *don't* require to install an agent on the Hyper-V host for this specific purpose.
