change interface network card for Exchange 2007 cluster mailbox server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've Exchange 2007 cluser mailbox server (running in Windows 2008, with single network card) and will change a new network card, but keep using same IP configuration. I would like to know the proper procedures. And, after replacing network card, how can I test if the 2 servers still connect to AD domain properly  i.e. without disjoin from domain? Please help. Thanks.

  • Ideally, running both network cards would be what I would do.

So install the second one and then switch the IP address information round.

Once done the old card can be removed.

If you cannot run both cards at the same time then it will have to be this:

Stop and disable all Exchange services (after ensuring the databases etc are live on the second server).

Switch the IP address information on the existing card to DHCP.

Remove the network card from Device manager and remove the drivers.

Shutdown the server and install the new card.

Boot the machine with the new card connected, install the new card drivers.

Set the IP address information correctly and reboot the server.

The DNS information for the server should be registered correctly.

Change the Exchange services back to automatic and reboot again.
