unable to install win 7, error code 0X80070241

Question

i have tried several times to install win 7, from dvd boot and also from within win xp, but when the process of copying files reaches 23%, suddenly it stops and following message appears. "windows ca not copy files required for installation. the files may be corrupt or missing. make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code:0X80070241". please note that i have downloaded win 7 installation two times and also burned three different dvds just to exclude the chance of some error in downloading or burning. please help me.Thursday, January 15, 2009 4:48 AM

I have seen that one time, only during an upgrade. We backed up the data on the drive, formatted the disk, and installed clean - it worked perfectly. Before you do that (if you go that route - remember - BACKUP YOUR DATA), you could try in the current OS:
CHKDSK /R
Which may repair any NTFS issues you are having, and allow the install to run. At the time we were in a hurry and didn't really care about the existing data.

dear Ned
thanks for early response, but my problem remains the same because i have also tried to install after formatting the drive too but it stucks on the same point. is it related to hard disk being on NTFS system, i have a hard drive of 320 gb on NTFS sytem. or how do i know if i have downloaded the complete iso file from MS ? i shall be waiting for your reply. thanks.Thursday, January 15, 2009 8:26 AM -
I got the same error code on two different xp machines. Error code: 0x80070241 and with 2 different dvds. Burning a third dvd at the slowest write speed I have. Any thoughts?Thursday, January 15, 2009 10:21 PM

I was getting the same error when trying to install 64bit version from DVD boot. 32bit version installs without fault.
I also tried burning a new DVD at 4X speed and was still getting this error at 57% during expanding.
Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS4P, Intel Q9450 2.66Ghz with 8gig RAM and brand new Pioneer DVR-216.
In the BIOS I disabled anything to do with USB , dragged out a USB to PS/2 adaptor for my mouse, keyboard already has PS/2 connecter. So essentially I had nothing plugged into USB ports.
Restarted computer, Windows 7 64bit now installs perfectly. Very happy now.
Hopefully this might work for you too.Friday, January 16, 2009 4:09 AM -

Hello Guys,
I have the same Problem with the 32bit Windows7.
Tried also a couple of Downloads, DVD´s and also USB Sticks. Allways the same, at the same point.
So i tried the 64bit Version, that installs more ahead, but at one point the Screen goes black and froze.
(The Same DVD on a different Computer was at that point just flashing the screen, and installed fine!!)
What makes me wondering: the older not Public Beta 6xxx was installing fine on my Maschine !!!!

Hello mumtaz_suk, I have faced the same error just like you during my installation. But I have found one solution. First of all use Nero 8 or above version to burn the iso image. You write downloaded iso file on a DVD+R 16x cd. Do not write this iso on DVD cds which are rewritables or less than 16x writing speed. I suggest you to use Sony DVD+R disc. This will solve the problem. One more think do you know how to burn cd of image or iso, if not let me know. I will tell you how to burn the cd.. If still problem presists then run the compatabilty software and see whether your system is compatable to Windows 7.. All the best..

Such a program is nothing but snake oil. I highly recommend against it
and all similar programs.Does anyone here use any sort of registry cleaner
Registry cleaning programs are all snake oil. Cleaning of the
registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and
don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and
what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of,
having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you.
The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously
removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit
it may have.

Let me point out that neither I nor anyone else who warns against the
use of registry cleaners has ever said that they always cause
problems. If they always caused problems, they would disappear from
the market almost immediately. Many people have used a registry
cleaner and never had a problem with it.Rather, the problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with it
the substantial risk of having a problem. And since there is no
benefit to using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very bad
bargain.Does anyone use avast antivirus free/internet security
Yes. Avast is one of the better free anti-spyware programs, and I
recommend it.
