what makes backed up log files clear away RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

We'll use DPM 2010 to backup Exchange 2010 databases which are members of a DAG. Total size of all 20 databases are 1.2 TB.

I'm wondering if the flushing of log files after backup is automatic or depending on an option within the database job. Do eseutil configuration and replica consistency check option in the backup job effect this flushing process?

Do you suggest running these checks for databases that large?

    Thanks and regards,

  • Hi,

about the flushing of log files, this parameter is set when you choose to do a full backup or only a copy backup.
Full backup will truncate the logs whereas copy backup will leave them intact.

You can then full backup a database on a DAG node and copy backup the same database on another node. That won't affect anything and this is the best practice.

About the eseutil i will leave that to you. If you DPM Server is strong enough to support that operation than you can perform it. Else let Exchange perform that task.
