A valid Migration mailbox could not be found for this organization

    Question

  • hello,

I am migrating from Exchange 2010 to 2013, everything went smoothly till migration step.

Anytime I start a new migration batch I get error "A valid Migration mailbox could not be found for this organization".

    Tried these workarounds:

    -Enable-Mailbox -Arbitration -Identity "Migration.8f3e7716-2011-43e4-96b1-aba62d229136"

Getting error "The object is read-only because it was created in a version of Exchange later than 1.1 (15.0.0.0)". Current supported version is 1.0 (14.0.0.0)

    didn't run : -Set-Mailbox "Migration.8f3e7716-2011-43e4-96b1-aba62d229136" -Arbitration –Management:$true

    because of previous error.

    Any suggestion would be great

  • Hi,

Suggest you to re-create migration arbitration mailbox

    1. Remove the mailbox: Go to CN=Users and delete all the system mailboxs

    2. Once removed, you have to run the Setup.exe /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

    3. The user accounts are now created again, and the next step is to Mail-Enable them:

    Get-User | Where {$_.Name –like "SystemMailbox*"} | Enable-Mailbox -Arbitration
    Get-User | Where {$_.Name –like "FederatedEmail*"} | Enable-Mailbox –Arbitration

    4. Re try the migration again

  • Hi ,

Did you refer to ManU’s suggestion to recreate migrated arbitration mailbox?

The following link also apply to recreate migrated arbitration mailbox:

  • Hi Sjamz,

    Welcome to our forum.

In addition above suggestions, please run “Enable-Mailbox” cmdlet on Exchange 2013 instead of Exchange 2010.

After you recreate migrated mailbox, please run the following command to make sure migrated mailbox has been recreated:

    Get-Mailbox –Arbitration

Then restart “Microsoft Exchange Replication” service, then move mailbox on EMS to check if the issue persist.

If this error persist when you move mailbox in EAC, please run the following command:

    Set-Mailbox "<migrated mailbox name>" -Arbitration -Management:$true

    For example:

    Set-Mailbox "Migration.8f3e7716-2011-43e4-96b1-aba62d229136" -Arbitration -Management:$true

  • Good Day,

I understand it has been a year since this post was last updated, but am hoping someone sees this reply.

We have encountered this issue and understand to remove the system mailboxes and recreate them, however, we are on Exchange 2013 CU17. Our version of installation media is Exchange 2013 SP1, if we run Setup.exe /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms from this media, will it have unwanted effects on our AD?

OR would upgrading to CU18 rebuild the system mailboxes? If so, would we need to remove them prior to installing CU18?

    Thanks,

    David Brockstedt
