How do I enable sleep from the keyboard, and hibernate as well - Windows 7 64 bit? RRS feed

  • Question

  • It seems that MS has decided to stop putting the sleep key on their keyboards. So how do I with intellitype pro configure a custom command for

1 the forwards key (default is for web page fwd) to put the computer to sleep, and

2 the backwards key to hibernate the computer.

From what I have read so far it seems that these are mutually exclusive as I can only get the computer to sleep with a "rundll32.exe powrprof.dll, Set Suspend State 0,1,0" key command if I have also set "powercfg /hibernate off ".

So, what do I configure the other button to do so that I can hibernate from the keyboard?

Also how can I eliminate the fact that on waking up some of the USB devices are not working correctly according to the pop up error message?

    Thank you

  • Install the Vista Start Menu program fom ordinarysoft.

It is far superior to the existing start menu.

Once installed, click on the Green power button and you will have a selection

of modes, including sleep, hibernate, shutdown, logoff, restart, etc.

    Here is their URL: http://www.Vistastartmenu.com

By the way, it works with Vista and Windows 7, as well.
