unable to contact domain, but able to ping

    Question

  • I am using Oracle virtual box to perform this.

    I have installed to virtual 2012 R2 machines. I have done static configuration with machine1 (doamain - kt.local) (AD DC) ip being 10.0.0.45/24, DG - 10.0.0.1, DNS 1 - 75.75.75.75 , DNS2 - 75.75.75.76

    machine 2 - ip - 10.0.0.50/24, DG - 10.0.0.1, DNS1 - 10.0.0.45, DNS2 - 75.75.75.75

    I have added ADDS role in machine 2, now, while promoting this as DC (kt1.local), (new domain, existing DC), I am getting error as domain kt.local cant't be contacted.

    I am able to ping 10.0.0.45 as well as kt.local from machine 2.

  • AD DC

    DNS Server......... ::1 >>> Your dns resolve from Ipv6,you should Modify the protocol bindings and network provider order order to resolve from Ipv4,

    Modify the protocol bindings and network provider order

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732472(v=ws.10).aspx

    If you can't modify order just disable Ipv6 from AD DC.(But you should know Ipv6 disable does not recommended.)

    And also you do not configure 75.75.75,etc on dns..Your DC should be set to itself as primary and alternate as other dc on dns settings.Just remove 75.75.etc from dns and run "ipconfig /all" "ipconfig /registerdns"..

    and if you need to use to resolve from 75.75.etc you can set on forwarder from dns console;

  • Hi,
    Please click “show more” option for detail error reason.

    Generally, this error may be caused by DNS error, firewall block, not ports opened, have you tried to troubleshoot from these aspects?
    Best regards,
    Wendy

  • Your DC needs to point to itself on dns,and other server needs to be point to dc on dns..Check that.Also check all FW disabled and necessary ports already accessible,you can check with PortQryUI;
