Wrong public folder location set for users migrated from 2007 to 2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We have two Exchange 2007 servers Exch1 and Exch2. During Exchange 2013 installation our public folder was located on Exch1.  After we completed installing 2013, due to an issue we had with the Exch1, we moved the PF from Exch1 to Exch2 using the moveallreplicas script and everything went well and all current Exchange 2007 users have full access to the PF. However, if a user is moved to Exchange 2013 or a new user created on 2013 server, the public folder cannot be accessed.  The error message indicates that "The set of folders cannot be opened. Your profile is not configured. (/0=DOMAIN/ou=Exchange Administrative Group(FY..........)/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=Exch1).

It seems like Exchange 2013 is not aware of the PF move so it expects the PF to be located on Exch1.  I can't find any references to changing this location on 2013 server.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Did you remove that public folder database, or just dismount it?  Try mounting it again.

  • The original database is completely moved to the Exch2 2007 server. It makes no difference mounting/dismounting since there is nothing there.

  • Yes, it does matter.  When Outlook clients first connect, they will connect to the server they had previously connected to.  You should remove the replicas, wait a while, then remove the database.  You should not dismount it, shut down the server, or anything like that or else clients will still try to connect to it.

  • Thanks but we had already done that properly and as I indicated we made sure all data was moved. Anyways we found out how to change the location of the public folders on Exchange 2013 and changed it to point the new location. We did using ADSI Edit.

  • Dear,

Can you advise us as we are also facing the same issue. Where to fix this in ADSI Edit?

Thanks a lot for the help!!

  • Yes you need to go to ADSI Edit/Configuration [domain name]/CN=Configuration, .../CN=Services/CN=Microsoft Exchange/CN=your organization name/CN=Administrative Groups/CN=Exchange Administrative Group/CN=Databases

Right click on each of the databases at that location and select properties.  Then look for  msExchDefaultPublicFolderMailbox and use Edit to change the location.
