Duplicate Emails with Internal Forwarding Enabled (when addressed to both mailboxes)

    Question

  • I have had a strange issue come up considering that we have not done any Exchange CU's in a while, and the problem seems to have just started about a month ago.

Whenever we have forwarding turned on from one exchange mailbox to another, the user that is receiving the forwarded emails is receiving a duplicate copy of messages that are sent to both the forward recipient and the mailbox being forwarded. This does not happen to all users, however the users that it does happen to it seems to be a recurring issue.

Typically, Exchange would only send one copy of a message to the person receiving the forwarded emails.

  • Hi SourceReform,

Do you mean when you set a rule to forward mails from A to B, when send mail to A, A and B are all receive this forward mail?

To narrow down this issue, I have some things to confirm with you:

    1. How do you set this forward rule? Could you provide the detail information about the rule that you set?

    2. Please check whether there exist other transport rules or inbox rules which may cause this phenomenon.

    Regards,

    Kyle Xu
