All start dayand finish dayof our projects change, but the duration not change after Project Synce RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear all,

I don't know what happened with our project.

After click Sync "Project Out of Sync: Resources or Calendars have been changed and will be updated on your next save. To update your project now, click Synce "

All our start day and finish day was changed in Project schedule page, but the duration not change

And in task and approval center, the start day and finish day not change, here it's correct.

    What should I do now?

Answers

  • No, we don't use Timesheet feature.

After some times trying to modify the start day, finish day, duration, change from manual to auto... edit, publish, close, checkin and then edit, publish, close, checkin...

The project start, finish day and duration become correct. But the working hour is 0. We cannot see error tasks in my task or approval center.

Then after some times edit, publish, close, checkin again, the working hour is correct... And we can see these tasks in my task and approval center.

    Don't know why..

How to sync project anytime I want? I want to test why the sync has problem.

The message you see means that your project schedule was not correct.  When you sync the project, I would expect the Start and Finish dates to change on one or more tasks, so what you are seeing is expected.  Furthermore, Duration is measured as the amount of working time over the life of the task, so syncing your project to accommodate nonworking time would not change the Durations, so again, what you are seeing is expected.  Beyond this, you will need to save and PUBLISH this project in order for PWA to show the correct schedule, including on the Tasks page for team members in your project.  Hope this helps.

  • When I save and Publish, then checkin the project. There are wrong start and finish day of many tasks.

And I cannot change the day to correct day. There are some misunderstanding about start day, duration and finish day:

    start: June 01 2012

    Duration: 5d

    Finish: July 20 2012

    How to fix it?

Without actually seeing your project, I have a hard time understanding why you think the dates are wrong.  If you have nonworking time on a calendar, Microsoft Project 2010 reschedules tasks around those dates.

If you need to constrain a task to start on a different date, you might try setting a constraint on the task.  To do this, double-click the name of the task and select the Advanced tab in the Task Information dialog.  Click the Constraint Type pick list and select a constraint that matches your scheduling need.  Enter the desired date in the Constraint Date pick list and then click OK.  Hope this helps.

  • Dear Dale,

    Imagine it:

    Before I click sync

    - Start day: June 01 2012

    - Duration: 5d

    - Finish day: June 07 2012

    --> Correct time and duration

    After I click sync

    - Start: June 01 2012

    - Duration: 5d

    - Finish: July 20 2012

--> Wrong time, duration not change. I check in task and approval: Start day: June 01 2012, Finish day: June 07 2012 --> Correct.

So the start and finish just display wrong in project schedule page

Are you using the Timesheet feature in Project Server 2010?  If so, has one of the team members in the project submitted nonworking time, such as vacation, and then the Timesheet Manager approved it?  That would explain the date changes.  Let us know and we will try to help.

To sync the project any time you want, I would recommend that you add the Sync to Protected Actuals button to your Quick Access Toolbar.  Hope this helps.

Click File > Options and then click the Quick Access Toolbar tab.  Click the Choose Commands From pick list on the left side and select the All Commands option.  In the list of buttons on the right, select the bottom button.  In the list of commands on the left, scroll down and select the Sync to Protected Actuals item and then click the Add button in the middle.  Click the OK button.  Hope this helps.
