Wrong mailbox statistic after the migration from exchange 2010 forest to 2007 RRS feed

  • Question

  • In the march we migrated our partners mailboxes in exchange 2010 forest to our forest with exchange 2007.

All work fine. But get-mailboxstatistic doesn't decrease TotalItemSize of the mailboxes when user cleans it mailbox in outlook.

    Get-mailboxfolderstatistic shows right  information.

ItemCount in Get-mailboxStatistic shows right  information.

Problem is with TotalItemSize only. And, as a consequence, with quotas.

Moving mailboxes to another server don't help.

    What can I do?

  • Hi.

    Exchange 2007 sp2 ru8

Exchange 2010 sp1 (I dont remember the Rollup version, becose we destroyed this forest half year ago).

So I solved the issue. I deleted "receverable Items" folder in mailboxes via mfcmapi util. Garbage was stored in this folder. Exch 2010 uses it for dumpster, but exch 2007 dont uses it and dont see it.

But in some mailboxes in outlook i see the message about online archive:

I think, that I should delete some in the mailboxes via mfcmapi. But I can't find needed item.

  • Hi,

The store architecture is completely different in Exchange 2010 compare to previous Exchange versions. In previous version, the dumpster was just a view, where as in exchange 2010, it is part of a table. The difference could be due to the same.

Apart from size difference in  get-mailboxstatistic and get-mailboxfolderstatistic, is it affecting any other functionality like you have set mailbox quota and the user is not allowed to send/receive email when the quota is not reached?

  • Thanks. But any reference for the number provided so that we may know whether it is correct or not, increase or decrease?

  • So, total size of all items in this mailbox - 7119873 bytes (7MB)
This size we see in Outlook, WebApp and in get-mailboxfolderstatistic

But in get-mailboxstatistic we see 560244950B (560 MB).

This user fully cleaned her mailnox two day ago. And Total size don't decreased.
    But TotalDeletedItemSize was increased correct.

  • Thanks for your udpate.

I noticed that there is a Count:59, is it the folder number or item number? Can you post the exact result of Get-MailboxFolderStatistics ? You may sent the information to my email via v-fiolia@microsoft.

Besides, may I know how your user cleans mailbox in Outlook and how she check the size in OWA and/or in Outlook? I would like to perform a local test with the exact steps.

    Thanks.

  • Fiona, big thanks for reply.

Count 59 - is the folder count, calculated by measure-object cmdlet.

full mailbox folder statistic - https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=EB581525D594918F!372&authkey=!AFQhYSM7AOBUCWw

Users can delete mails in Outlook or use AutoArchiving on Outlook.

And they check mailbox size this way:
