Windows 7 sidebar @ 50% with a new external monitor RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all-

    My specs:

HP 8510p laptop used on a docking station with two monitors.  Dell 20" 1680x1050 and Asus 20" 1600x900.  I was running all fine and dandy, until yesterday when I got a new 20" Asus VE208T LED/LCD monitor to replace my Dell 1440x900.  Since then every time I restart my sidebar.exe goes to 50%, never loads completely and freezes up other applications running.  I've looked at several things, including color management (though I don't completely understand it) but I have yet to find out what is causing the issue.  Anyone have any thoughts?  Thanks!!

  • Hi,

You may try to boot the computer in Safe Mode or Clean Boot to determine whether the 3rd application causes this issue.

Please refer to the following link.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

Also, to use the Process Monitor can let you know what kind of activities the sidebar process do during it eats memory.

Download the Process Monitor at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.

You may also use ShellExView to disable 3rd party plug-ins and upgrade the display card driver for a test.

    Download Process Monitor at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645

    Thanks.
