Big HyperV backup vs agent backup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Not to over complicate this but i have a current 2012 HyperV cluster that backs up to a DPM 2012. I am migrating to a 2016 HyperV cluster with DPM 2016 using RCT.

I have a file server that has about 20TB in 10 million files split in two VHDX. On the 2012 i went with the agent based backup as it just felt more stable. However i am wondering if i should give the node based HyperV backup another chance on 2016. I backup all my other servers(30+) using the hyperv backup method and it works great, but they are all normal size VMs 20GB - 600GB.

    Any best practice advise here?

  • Seems like this would be a common scenario to have to decide between. Still looking for some advice.
