Custom Tiles in SharePoint Server 2016 (On-Prem)

    Question

  • I am trying to enable Custom Tiles in SharePoint 2016 (On-Prem), following this article 'Custom Tiles in SharePoint server 2016'.

After running the command in step 6:

Enable-SPFeature -Identity CustomTiles -Url http://web_app -Force

I am able to access the newly created "Custom Tiles" List. I can see it "hidden" behind the scenes with SharePoint Designer, or by browsing the url:

    http://web_app/lists/custom tiles

however, the columns' display names (except for the Title column ) in the list seem messed up. they read strings like '$Resources:spcore,CustomTileList_Feature_Title_Order...'

    Custom Tiles List

I tried disabling the feature, deleting the Custom tiles list and re-enabling the list. The custom tiles list gets recreated with the same issue with the column names. I tried running the psconfig command, but it doesn't helps either.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

    SharePoint 2016 version: 16.0.4471.1000

    4 servers: 2 WFE + 2 App servers

    Thanks!

  • You're missing the wssloc patch that goes with the sts-x-none patch you've applied. Every month there are _two_ SharePoint patches you must apply on the farm. The most current patches as of this post are:

    https://support.microsoft.com/help/3178718

    https://support.microsoft.com/help/3178721

Both need to be applied on all farm members, then run the config wizard on all farm members.
