  • Same here. Using an alias/redirect for my work email which had been fine until yesterday, suddenly I can't send anything today, not even a plain text message to myself. A secondary alias/redirect I have works fine, though, no idea why. Checked my domain against blacklists and it comes up clean so I don't know why it's being flagged for "spam" here.

Given by the number of replies and topics opened with the same issue, looks like it's not on my end at least... hopefully they'll fix it soon.

  • I have the same problem. Hosting my domain email with Outlook and this email account has been used to email fewer than 15 distinct people in the past 6 months, with more than 99% of emails being site admin emails sent to myself and my wife (around 10 emails a day on average). Microsoft, please help - this is my company email address. After years working just fine, yesterday, got this notification on all my outgoing emails:

This isnt an official Microsoft support channel in that sense. You would need to open a ticket with Outlook.com support which is not the same as Exchange Online - which is what this forum is for.

By now, there is not a formal published statement on this issue. Let's keep an eye on it and see if there would be an KB or team blog describing this.

    Now it happens again.

Seems like its issue for people using outlook  old admin center to work with their domain emails.

Last time it was resolved within about 24 hours by microsoft. Obviously because it happens every some time now the fix is not permanent.

    Dear Microsoft: PLEASE FIX IT.

    Wednesday, February 5, 2020 10:04 AM
  • My outlook stopped working Feb 4 too. Same issue, no messages going out, but still receiving emails. At least I think I'm still receiving some, if not most emails.

I tried again just now and turns out, emails are working fine on the outlook app on android. I have been able to send and receive emails thru the app. HOWEVER, I still haven't been able to send any emails (to the same email addresses I tried on the app) on my laptop through outlook.

Anyone knows what's going on? It's not our problem is it??? This is a serious matter because we rely so much important stuff with emails. We can't afford to have them blocked and not able to reply.

    Help Microsoft!!!

Thanks for pointing out it works in plain text and I confirm that's true for me. It also works sending from my iPhone, but I think that's because that's plain text too. Windows 10 mail app doesn't work.

  • My partner has started having this issue this morning too, with a hotmail.com account on Outlook client via Laptop.  Works ok from phone though. After researching and finding this thread we tried the plain text option and that worked for her too.

Then I realised I had not sent an email today, so tried, using a completely unrelated Hotmail account, and I have the same issue (from outlook client on laptop)

Remote Server returned '550 5.7.520 Message blocked because it contains content identified as spam. AS(4567)'

For those having this issue with hotmail.com, hotmail.co.uk and maybe outlook.com etc accounts, it seems that in addition to phones working ok, so does web based client, so if you have to send from your PC then that could be a good option.

  • I've the same issue: impossible to send an email from Outlook. Works only with the Web access and from the phone.

I have this issue since this morning.

    Wednesday, February 5, 2020 10:49 AM
  • Same issue for hotmail/outlook
Working fine from web and mobile device, but not from outlook app on a pc.

    Emails can not be sent

    Wednesday, February 5, 2020 10:50 AM
  • The only 'fix' I have worked out since this started tonight (4th Feb) is to send emails via the web browser on Outlook.com - doing the exact same thing in the Outlook desktop app doesn't work.

    Wednesday, February 5, 2020 10:54 AM
  • same here,  but when i send the email from the hotmail web page, its working!
    Wednesday, February 5, 2020 10:57 AM
  • Same here too. For a paid service, this is unacceptable!
    Wednesday, February 5, 2020 10:59 AM
  • Still not working!

It does work from the App but not from Desktop. Also not if sent as plain text format.

Only thing is that some mail i just simply cannot send from my phone app.

Where else or who else can be contacted to solve this problem? Anyone any idea or leads?

    Thank you.

  • Hello where do you "click on file" please ?

    Wednesday, February 5, 2020 11:02 AM
  • same here. I checked my IP if it was blacklisted but it is not. and then the weirdest thing happened:

I tried to send emails with my phone (from the outlook app). and it is working fine. It makes no sense to me but at least i can use my phone until they fix the problem.

    Wednesday, February 5, 2020 11:05 AM

  • same for me, was very worried that account was hacked and being used to send spam, so changed password, did virus scan on laptop, spent the past hour on this, still had problem.  So happy to find this thread and see that others have it too, so must be system issue.  I can also send in plain text, thanks so much for person who figured that out!!!

Me too. Am I correct in deducing from previous answers on here that the problem just resolves itself? Why is there no official Microsoft advice/acknowledgement?
    Wednesday, February 5, 2020 11:25 AM
  • just tried to send another email in plain text and it got rejected back to me with the same reason! AAAARRGH! Microsoft, do SOMETHING!

    Wednesday, February 5, 2020 11:35 AM
  • Same here - just started this morning. All outgoing emails are returned as spam, incoming emails received OK.

Emails sent via a web browser appear to be unaffected.

I haven't tested it with attachments, but for an issue like this to appear out of nowhere substantially disrupts one's business operations.  I have ONE email that I use to run my company both locally and remotely.  This kind of "issue" is not even on the radar for being acceptable for a provider like Microsoft.

  • For what it's worth, HTML emails from an Evolution mail client running on Debian Linux (i.e. a Raspberry Pi) are being sent OK. HTML emails from the Windows 10 Mail app are being rejected. HTML emails from Outlook are being rejected. Plain text emails from Outlook are being sent OK. I've tried these from three different computers which are on the same LAN and using the same outlook.com account (with a hotmail.com email address).

  • I had the same 550 5.7.520 Message blocked problem on Feb 5 for my outlook (live.com) account - details below.  Thanks to Scipion75 for the link to the MS Status page

I had sent a circular email to a lot of contacts a few minutes earlier, and wondered if a recipient had marked it as SPAM, and triggered a SPAM filter.  My workaround was to send from a gmail account, and the Block cleared next day.  I would have appreciated a clearer response or help message from Microsoft at the time.
