Print Settings are not saved on IE8 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have an issue with IE8 on WinxP. One of the Team prints envelopes from a web based application. But the settings wont stay for the print immediately as advised below.

Users need to select a certain size of envelope every time they print via web-based application (Internet Explorer). We are trying to resolve the issue so that Internet Explorer remembers their last selection. They are currently selecting DL Envelope each time they print.

Ozescribe(the application) initially wanted us to change the driver on the server to resolve the issue. We changed the driver but the issue still remains. The original driver has been put back.

Please advise of any better solutions

  • Hi,

try tools>ActiveX Filtering (or click the blue circle icon that appears in the Address bar)

contact http://ozescribe.com/ (phone numbers and address at bottom of the landing page)

their web page is incorrectly detecting the installed Adobe Flash version.

  • Hi,

IE8 does not store any information about the default page size for the selected default printer. That is stored in the windows registry and managed by your Printer Driver software.

Most companies would use an ActiveX plugin to control the printer from a web page.

Select the Tools>Manage Addons>View all Addons to ensure that any required ActiveX addons your company is using are enabled.

Select the File>Properties menu to find out which IE security zone your site maps to... There are security zone settings controlling ActiveX controls and java applets.

Internet Options>Security tab, click "reset all zones to default" to ensure that you are accepting your companies Group Policy security settings for IE.

  • Hi Rob,

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes we do have ActiveX plugin to control the printer via web-interface.The problem here is the Vendor says that it works for other organisations with same or similar environment.

They have told us to update the printer drivers on the Server, we updated but failed to get it worked.

Can you please elaborate your solution ?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Please post back with answers to my questions....

    additionally

Do you have both a 32bit and 64bit version of their ActiveX control installed?... who is the vendor (some publicly available ActiveX print addons do not work with the latest versions of IE... eg. coupons.com) Use the Manage Addons tool to find out what versions are installed and the vendor/publisher's details.

    1. file>Properties what IE security zone does your site map to? (Intranet)...

    2. Tools>Internet Options>Security tab, click "reset all zones to default"...

From your answer to 1... select the IE Security zone tab, uncheck the "Enable protected Mode" option (close and restart IE for the full changes to take effect).

  • Hi,

I have reset the security settings on the explorer.

I have checked the addons ..all i can see is Adobe Citrix and Microsoft.

The printer is a Lexmark Printer(networked)

The application(web-base) am using is Ozescribe.

    The issue:

User has to change/select the right tray or paper size( i need envelope) every time they print. But IE8 doesn't save settings for the next print( not closing and reopening ie)

User wants to avoid doing it every time they have to print..Thats all
