Office 2010 x86 on Win 7 64 bit vs. Office 2013 x64 on Win 8 64 bit.

Question
-
Will Office Pro 2013 x64 work properly with Win 8 Pro 64 bit, since Office 2010 x64 did not work as well as Office x86 on Win 7 64 bit?
And will I have problems moving my Outlook files to 2013x64 given that they are now x86?

Yes, in most cases, we recommend to install the 32-bit version of Office.
.
It depends, we don't have to uninstall Office 2010 (32-bit) before install Office 2013 (32-bit).
Especially, by using the new Click-to-Run technology, we can install Outlook 2013 with previous version of Outlook together, which is unsupported before. (Click-to-Run is an alternative to the traditional Windows Installer-based (MSI) method of installing and updating Office. )
Note, when install Office 2013 with MSI installer, by default it will remove Office 2010 during the setup, unless we choose custom install and set keep all previous version Office products. (But Outlook 2010 will still be removed.)
Click-to-Run now is available for the following Office 2013 suits:
Office 365 ProPlus
Office Professional 2013
Office Home and Business 2013

Hi Lawrence,
Please note that both 32-bit version of Office and 64-bit version of Office are well supported by 64-bit version of Windows 7 and Windows 8 by using Windows-32-on-Windows-64 (WOW64). WOW64 is the x86 emulator that enables 32-bit Windows-based applications to run seamlessly on 64-bit Windows systems.
The reason why we recommend to install the 32-bit version of Office is that most existing extensions to Office, such as ActiveX controls, third-party add-ins, in-house solutions built on earlier versions of Office, or 32-bit versions of programs that interface directly with Office can only work with the 32-bit version of Office.
You may also want to read this article Choose the 32- or 64-bit version of Microsoft Office which will help you decide which version of Office to install.
And, there is no 64-bit and 32-bit compatibility issue about Outlook Data Files.

Hi Max.
Thanks for the explanation. If I understand you right, even with Win 8 it's better to install Office 2013 x86 than 64bit because of the lack of availability of ActiveX controls for 64 bit. One final question, do I need to uninstall Office 2010 x86 before I install Office2013 x86 or is it an in-place upgrade? Thanks for your help.
