Custom formula field RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have created one formula field TOtal Cost and formula is

[Expense Cost] + [Capital COst] where both are custom cost fields. When I change the values of these fields the Total Cost field value populates only after save on PDP page. But it gives two extra zeroes without decimal points.

    e.g. Capital Cost : 20000 Expense Cost : 30000 Then Total Cost : 5,000,000

It gives correct value as Total Cost : 50,000.00 only when the project is Closed and reopened. Any workaround for this?

    Thanks

  • Hello Diptik,

What version of Project are you using? 2007? 2010?

I tried to simulate your scenario here and did the test as follows:

    1 - Insert three cost fields, Cost1, and cost2 custo3.

    Cost1 equals Expense Cost

    Cost Capital Cost 2 equals

    3 equals Cost Total Cost

The formula was as follows: ([Cost1] + [Cost2]) and it worked perfectly.

    If you want to treat individually add ([Cost1] + [Cost2]) / 100

If you are using the Project 2010 version try installing SP1:

    I hope I helped

  • Diptik, this could be way off target, but try checking the currencies. In Project Server there is an enterprise currency selection. It may also be possible to set a different currency with a specific number of decimal places in Project Pro for a project. I haven't tried it but it's easy to imagine that different settings in the client and server would have some effect similar to what you're describing.

I can confirm this behaviour. It happens to one of our customers as well. They have been patched up to August CU.

However when you refresh the page the correct result appears. Same if you close and reopen the PDP. I believe this is a bug.

Not that this helps, but at least you have a work around :)
