How to link the Category field in SharePoint's Calendar and Outlook's calendar event? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all

I have been searching on the internet about how to link the Category field in SharePoint to Outlook or vice versa; but not luck yet!

Does anyone knows how to connect that field in both. Or is there a workaround to achieve that?

    Thanks

  • Hi Xavier SP2010,

Out of box, when calendars are synched to Outlook 2007 using “Connect to Outlook” function in SharePoint, Outlook will expose default columns from its own schema.

Here is a workaround that put the context information for the calendar in a calendar column in SharePoint that matches a default one in the Outlook calendar schema (example: Outlook calendar has field Categorize, then the information in SharePoint calendar column Categorize will link to the Categorize in Outlook).

Also, you can try third party product for Outlook called ProperSync. It exposes custom columns for task and calendar items in Outlook.

More information about the workaround “Display SharePoint Custom Columns in Outlook”, please refer to:

More information about the third party product ProperSync, please refer to:
