DPM backup Workgroup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a question about DPM 2012 backup Workgroup server. I have some Windows
Servers running 2012 that in workgroup and I want to use DPM 2012 to fully
backup these server. However after install DPM agent successfully, the only
option is backup System State and OS partition (not Bare Metal Recovery) as true
    as this link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh757801.aspx

Now I have 2 options to backup & restore these server:

    1. Backup System State and file in DPM only, and to recovery: reinstall OS,
applications and restore using System State, restore file if needed.

    2. Besides backup using DPM, I use Windows Server Backup to backup BMR weekly
to DPM Server. To restore: restore BMR+ System state in DPM to the exactly
    time.

Is it ok to use option 2 to recover faster? What's your opinion?

    Thanks.

  • I think it depends on your network speed, have you tested it in a lab?

Personally i prefer reinstalling from scratch as you dont restore any issues of that OS if it did have any.
