conflicting and multiple edits have been made to a task RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a user which every now and then gets a message from the Public Folder Database which says there has been a conflict.  the full message is:

Multiple edits have been made to "<<task name>>". The conflicting edits have been attached to a conflict message in "<<Task folder>>".

I know what the message means and that it's sent to the user and owner of the folder to tell them there has been a conflict between 2 users who have made changes at the same time. It's a small office though of 5 users and the user is absolutely sure that no one else made a change at the time she was editing it. There was a change the day before but none today when she got this conflict message.

There is also no message attached to the task as the message says stating what the conflict is. I have searched and searched but I don't think there is a way of finding what the conflict is.

Microsft have the following support article about disabling this message here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/265733

But this isn't good enough because I don't want to disable the message. This conflict issue happens every so often, about 2 or 3 times a month and a couple months ago when it started happening, the user opened the task and did find all the information she wrote in the task had dissapeared, so something funky is definitely happening. I have searched high and low for an answer but can't find anything.

I have tried running the mailbox in cached mode and online mode but still happens in both modes. The only thing I suspect that could be happening is I suspect something sus with the network card because occassionaly but not very frequently the user does drop connections from Exchange. This is very rare though. It was happening very often with one network card and I have replaced the network card and now it's quite stable but have noticed it occur once or twice. My guess is if the network card loses connection perhaps a sync and conflict issue occurs with the local copy and server copy...?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • How many replicas does the folder have?  Is a backup or some other process running at the time that the conflict messages are being generated?
